Corpus et Spiritus ~ Prototype Version

Corpus et Spiritus is a solo deckbuilding game where you play as an alchemist looking to create the mythical Philosopher's Stone. To reach that goal, you made a pact with a Homunculus, an artificial creature made by alchemy. It gives you access to great powers, but at a terrible cost: your life. Get smarter than the Homunculus and break free from the pact before it sucks the life out of you!

How to play

Play cards to generate metals, improve your attributes and gain knowledge. Use the metals in your alchemy workshop to create new cards or forge magical talismans. Improve your knowledge and become smarter than the Homunculus to win the game.

Cards can be played for their actions cost (top-left corner) or recycled for free to gain their associated metal (top-right corner). Drag a card from your hand and drop it on the "Play" zone to play it, or drop it on the "Recycle" zone to recycle it.

Each turn, the Homunculus offers you a deal: in exchange for a part of your being (vitality, experience or intelligence), it will give you something that could be useful to your quest. You can refuse, but that will make it angry, and soon enough it will attack your vitality. Refuse too many deals and it will straight out kill you. And beware: if one of your three attributes falls to zero, you die!

What to expect

This is an early version of Corpus et Spiritus, and we're putting it here for free to gather your feedback about the game.

What you will find:

  • a fully working game with many systems;
  • strategic depth in how you play and beat the game;
  • a reasonable challenge.

What you won't find:

  • beautiful art: we are working on it, but will only start integrating graphics once we've settled on the core design of the game. Please refer to the first screenshot for a glance at what the game will look like;
  • progression and difficulty: we have plans for both of those, but will only start working on them once we've settled on the core design of the game;
  • tutorial: once again, we're not working on that until the core gameplay is solidified;
  • signs and feedback: we are currently focusing on the core mechanics only, quality of life will come later;
  • sound and music: there are some sounds from our previous game, but not everywhere, and no music or ambiance;
  • bugs, hopefully! :D But if you do find some, please report them by pressing F8 in the game.

What we need:

Your feedback! We are eager for anything you have to say about the core gameplay of Corpus et Spiritus. Is it fun? What did you like? What did you find frustrating?

You can help us by playing, then filling the survey at the end of the game or sending feedback through our in-game form — press F8 anywhere to open it. You can also join our community, either through our newsletter or our discord server:
