Homunculi and better cards design - 2025-07-03 update

Dear players,

We are excited to bring to you what I call the “horizontal slice” of Corpus et Spiritus. This is a version that contains most of the systems of the games, and all of the major systems. It has a bunch of content, enough to test said systems, and the gameplay is representative of what will be in the final game. Of course there will be changes here and there, some systems might change, other minor systems will be added, and a lot of content will make it into the game. But I’m calling it a game, and will now focus on adding the core non-pure-gameplay features: the workshop and its animations, the homunculus and its animations, the interface, a tutorial, and then all the million other things that are required to make a great video game.

The main change of this version are that we’ve added 2 new homunculus for you to play against. Each comes with a different goal in terms of knowledge to gain, and a different starting deck for you. The progression of the workshop has changed and now only requires to play against the base difficulty of the 3 homunculi. No need to play with the higher challenges, those have become purely optional and a way for you to find your sweet spot in terms of difficulty.

The second main change is that I’ve reworked a whooooole lot of cards. I’ve been working on streamlining the various mechanics so that they fit into a single family or pair of families. It will be more predictable now if you want to play a certain strategy. You can see all the cards directly from the game, in the Collection view accessible from the title menu.

We hope you’ll enjoy those changes, and as usual we are looking for all your feedback! Please do let us know what you think about the game by filling the survey at the end of each game, by using the feedback form (press F8 anywhere in the game) or by joining our Discord server.

Happy playing, and let’s roll the changelog!

2025-07-03 — Homunculi and cards design update

Gameplay

  • Added two homunculus, for a total of three available in the game. Each one has a different knowledge goal and thresholds and a different starting deck. Beat the first one to unlock the second, and the second to unlock the third. Progression in the workshop now happens by playing against the three homunculus, you don’t need to play with higher difficulty to unlock it. Challenges are now purely optional and a way to find your sweet spot in terms of difficulty.
  • Made cards recycle for arbitrary metals instead of the one associated with their families. This prevents the snowball around gold: getting your first gold card means you can recycle it and get a second one “for free”, then get two more, and so on. Gold cards became way too easy to get over time. Now you’ll have to actually work a lot more to get gold (and other precious metals).
  • All metals can be used to forge a talisman in the workshop, not just gold. However, the higher the quality of the metal, the higher the chances of finding a rare or legendary talisman.
  • Added a new workshop component that allows to transform any metal into knowledge. The more precious the metal is, the more knowledge you gain.
  • [bug] Made all actions including randomness un-undoable. Not more re-rolling a talisman or card transmutation.

Quality of life

  • Added a page to see all the cards in the game. Click on “Collection” in the title menu.
  • Added a new font for the content.

Content

  • Soooo many cards that have changed or are new, this changelog would be unreadable. Instead please load the game and click the Collection button to see all the cards. 🙂
